Love Bridge is a very beautiful and one of the most romantic places in the whole Cyprus, a visit of which for honeymooners and couples in love has almost become a tradition (sometimes even symbolic marriage ceremonies are held here). Love Bridge is a rocky arch bridge of natural origin, with one edge stretching into the crystal clear, turquoise and emerald sea from an elevated coastal plateau. Bridge has formed naturally as a result of natural processes, without human intervention. It is believed that if you kiss while standing in the middle of the bridge arch and make a wish, it will surely come true. Also vacationers come here simply to admire the beautiful sea view and take pictures. Romantic atmosphere of the bridge gets especially charming at sunset.
The length of the bridge is about 6 meters, and the width is about half a meter. There is wide bedrock at the “sea” edge of the bridge, if you want to swim, you can descend to it carefully and swim in the sea. Jumping in the water from the bridge is extremely dangerous; the sea is shallow here and the bottom contains a lot of sharp rocks. But if the desire to get thrills remains unsatisfied, then you can jump from rocks into water in a less dangerous location near the shore of Sea Caves Cavo Greco.
Most of the routes of boat tours from the Ayia Napa port take place in the area of the bridge (also it is not infrequent that Love Bridge is included in the program of Protaras sea excursions), and if while traveling on a small holiday cruiser the passengers will show a desire to have a swim, the captain can make a short stop here.
Water area of the bridge is also chosen by local divers, who often provide learning scuba diving for beginners here – the sea is shallow and safe for the first dive, and at the same time it is very beautiful, interesting and abundantly populated with all sorts of marine life.
The monk seals can be seen here sailing at the bridge in summer months (Mediterranean monk seal). It is one of the rarest species in the world, the total population is only about 500 species, and the species itself is on the brink of extinction. Adults can reach up to 2.5 meters in length and weigh up to 300 kilograms. If you are lucky, you can watch how the pair of seals swim and dive in the waters near the bridge (among zoologists of environmental organizations the Love Bridge is even called “monk seals bridge”).
Love Bridge is located on the shore just near the eastern entrance to Ayia Napa – west of the bridge you can observe the well-furnished resort area of the city with a well ensured and clean beaches, hotels and entertainment facilities, and on the east you can find another famous natural attraction of Cyprus – sea caves Cavo Greco. It is easy to get to the bridge from Ayia Napa, you can do it even on foot. The place is very popular and most of the tourists and residents will with pleasure point you towards the Love Bridge or, as locals often call it, Stone Arch. You can also use the city bus – the nearest stop “Marina” is located two minutes away; or get there by car – you need to go west down the Kryou Nerou street and immediately behind the Atlantica Club Sungarden Beach hotel, where the road approaches the coast, you will find the Love Bridge.
Although the “Bridge” attracts a lot of tourists, it still remains unorganized tourist point of interest, and its visit requires some preparation – hat, comfortable shoes, drinking water supply and protective sunscreen. The nearest to the Love Bridge organized beach is the famous beach of Ayia Napa – Glyki Nero Beach. The beach is located five hundred meters west of the bridge, and it is possible to reach it walking on the path along the seashore. Here, on the Glyki Nero Beach, you can eat and drink in the Maistrali Beach Bar and use the beach facilities. Also, just a little east of the bridge, a youth café bar Amante Beach is located – here you can eat and relax in the shade of tents, and have fun and dance at the disco in the evening.
You can perfectly complement the walk to the Love Bridge by visiting the Sculpture Park – it is located a little further north, just across the bridge. The park is situated under an open sky and presents works and installations of modern Cyprian and foreign sculptors.
